What are the benefits of combing L1 or mother tongue in English classrooms?
the combination of students’ mother tongue language and English is a better way to improve students’ language skills for three reasons, including reducing the anxiety of students, saving time for teaching and learning English, and helping low proficiency learners. First, the combination of the mother tongue and target language can reduce students’ stress. English teachers can use the mother tongue as a helpful tool to reduce student’s anxiety. Moreover, the use of the mother tongue can be a time-saver for teaching and learning English. Using the mother tongue helps learners to learn English faster than using English only because it can save a great deal of time for understanding the concept or definition of English grammar and words. Finally, using the mother tongue can provide effective language learning for low proficiency learners. In English classrooms, there are many different levels of proficiency of students. Some students need some helpful tools to help them to learn English more effectively, especially low proficiency students.

Students would get the sense that learning another language is a positive experience because they can have access to a valuable resource that supports them, and they do not have to feel guilty for doing what comes naturally.
