Why do we use authentic materials in the classroom?

I am inclined to believe that the reasons why we have been using authentic materials in the classroom are as follow;
- they are real and intrinsically more interesting and motivating.
- they give students confidence when they understand them.
- they provide examples of language as it is really used.

Actually, i don't know what can be called 'authentic materials' exactly in Thai context.
But i think the authentic materials help student to learn language so much. They might understand language that is usually used.

In my opinion, we use authentic materials to motivate students to study English because AM is a material which is not prepared for language learning and it is not from textbooks. So students will enjoy studying the real thing and It helps them use English naturally because they study English from concrete situations.

In my opinion, authentic materials are very helpful to L2 learners. There are several authentic materials for a teacher to choose in teaching. Apart from attraction which AM can provide, it makes students get closer to an authentic language use in L1. In the coursebook, the audio is made for learning. If the students learn from the coursebook only, they will not be familiar with authentic L2.

1. Let students know the real one.
2. Encourage students to think about what is related to their life.

4. Improve the students thinking.
5. They are challenging to teacher.

Authentic materials are useful and essential for EFL learners. One of thier problems is that they are not used to English language. They don't use it in their daily life. As for me, authentic materials are the best way that children have opportunities to learn from the native culture.
