If a person I am talking to doesn't understand what I really want to convey to them especially in English, I tend to..
1. repeat myself.
2. use gestures.
3. speak more slowly.
4. pronounce the words more clearly and distinctly.
5. rephrase using less complex sentence.
6. draw a picture and show a photograph.
7. use synonyms for difficult words.
8. write down key words or phrases.
9. be patient and polite.

What I am going to do if an interlocutor doesn't understand what I am saying include trying to speak slowly and clearly, showing them a picture of that thing as well as using body languages or facial expressions. To me, doing so can help make them understand what I am trying to say easily. I as a speaker have to make sure that the person who I am talking to understand what I say so that there won't be any misconceptions.

I think it is typical to see this situation. Sometimes I might see strangers who might be a foreigner in an unexpected time and I do not know what they said. If he or she does not understand what I said in English, I would talk with them slowly with body languages. But I suggest using google translate or NTbox TT2. It is easier than still talking. But if you really want to practice, be patient because it takes time.

As from me experience, when I joined in Kru Eng club camp, we have to use English to teach and communicate with a kids. Sometimes, they don't understand what we have said. So, I try to speak it slowly and clearly as much as possible. Most importantly, I also use body language to help them more understanding. Sometimes, I change the vocabulary to be an easy one. By doing this, I think it helps them understand our messages.

And what I did is try to reaction to express the meaning of what I say,try to give them some hint, and mybe I said it in Thai if they do really not understand it.
